Now you know why you need to improve the airtightness of a home, something about how air operates, and how to have a home’s airtightness measured. It’s time to put this knowledge into action. Let’s start with these three simple rules for air sealing when you remodel your home:
- Find and seal the big holes first.
- Find and seal the medium-sized holes second.
- Find and seal as many of the small holes as you can.
What Are We Looking For?
Every home is different,
most home we work on are retrofit homes, and Air seal was never done in these homes back in the days or even when homes were build by code it wasn’t required to do Air Seal
Attic Spaces are very important in a home there is almost 45% to 60% energy loss going into the attics.
Check List of things we look for.
- Attic Access seal
- Baffles for low vents
- Recessed lighting light cans
- Proper ventilation
- Moisture Problems
- Contamination in insulation rodents or pest
- Vents are connected? and going to exterior (baths, hoods)
- Duct work inside the attic space
- knee walls (interior walls located inside attic)
- Skylights
- Slopped ceilings
- General inspection of attic space
- Current material and R-value, good conditions or Bad
After all things has been checked then we can offer the solutions to our customers, this will include what kind of materials we can install in the attic space we are inspecting and what things need to be fix before we insulate.
